How To Determine Your Hat Size

Useful tips to help you measure your hat size

How To Measure For A Hat?

  1. First, Measure Your Head Circumference
To measure your head circumference, take a sewing measuring tape or even a string, and wrap around above the ears and across your eyebrows. Please stick your finger under the tape so there is a little room and there you have head circumference! If you fall between measurements go for the next size up. Record your measurement in centimeters, if possible for the most accuracy. If you used a string, match it to a measuring tape.

  1. Find Your Hat Size with the corresponding size on the below hat chart
It is known that different suppliers do in fact follow different sizing metrics. So, the chart, although universal, may vary from one hat maker to another.

Many companies provide unique sizing charts for each of their hats. We try to have as many of these charts across all our sun hats. Despite that, we decided to take this a step further and offer the closest thing to a universal metrics system that caters to both men and women. That said, and without further ado, please find below the hat sizing charts along with instructions on how to measure your head circumference in order to determine which hat size to go with.

Most Common Hat Sizing Questions:

What is the average hat size for men?

59 CM, or Large.

What is the average hat size for women?

57 cm, or Medium.

What size hat is one size fits most?

In most cases, this refers to a women’s hat and will fit around 57cm. If it were a men’s hat or a unisex hat, this would mean the hat should fit up to 59 cm. Remember, hat manufacturers vary and you should always refer to the sizing chart for each company, when available.

What size head does an XL hat fit?

Up to 61cm, or 24” circumference.

What hat size is 23”?

Large.

I don’t have a measuring tape, can I guess my size?

If you absolutely must order without knowing your size, the best way to sort of guess is to try on a normal hat and see how much more room you would need, fingers wise. Each finger is generally about 2 cm. The difference for most people between each size, or 2 cm, is one finger width.

How to Measure Your Hat Size :

In Order to find out how to measure your head size to find the right hat, you’ll need either a sewing tape measure, or a 25″ length of string and a ruler. If you have a friend this will make the process easier but it can be done by yourself as well.

Step 1) Take your piece of string or sewing tape measure and start at a point roughly 1/2 to 1 inch above your ears, and then while trying to keep it as level as possible, wrap the string or measure around your head until you come back to your starting point.
Step 2) Be careful to hold on to your end point on the string or sewing tape measure in order to properly mark your head size.
Step 3) For the sewing tape measure, simply correspond your measurement to our hat size chart here.
Step 4) For your length of string, use your ruler to work out how long your length of string measures and then reference our hat sizing chart above.

Things To Keep in Mind:

Hats and headwear are like any other clothing item in that they will vary between manufacturers. There will always be minor differences, sometimes even between two of the same sized hats.

If you want to be sure of the right fit, you are welcome to use our hat sizing tips above and once you have determined your size, we are happy to measure the hat in question for you before sending it out. If you are still concerned, you might consider going one size up from what you think your size is, and then adding in some of our hat sizing tape, which is great for minor size adjustments.
